Releasing Pressure in the Sprayer
- Turn the tank upside down
- Squeeze the flow control lever until all the air pressure is gone
- If your sprayer has a pressure relief valve, turn knob clockwise until all air pressure is gone.

Cleaning Your Backpack Sprayer
General Instructions
NOTE: Always follow the chemical manufacturer's directions for cleaning (before rinsing out your sprayer)
NOTE: These are basic instructions. Each model may differ. Always follow the instruction manual for cleaning and servicing your specific model.
- Always empty the sprayer after each use
- Clean the tank thoroughly after each use
- Pump the sprayer until pump handle until all of the air and contents exits through the nozzle (a minimum of 30 strokes)
- Fill the tank half way with water
- Pump the water out using a minimum of 30 strokes again
- Repeat as necessary
Remember
- Do not use strong cleaning agents or abrasives
- Follow the chemical manufacturer’s instructions for the disposal of the waste water if you use a chemical agent to clean the tank
Storing and General Sprayer Maintenance
- Store your sprayer out of direct sunlight
- Store in a cool, dry space
- Before freezing weather, make sure to drain all liquid in the tank, pump, pressure cylinder, hose, shut-off valve, wand and nozzle
- Lock the shut-off valve in the “open” position
- Inspect the hose, wand, pump, tank and shut-off valve for wear, damage or leaks on a regular basis, and repair defects promptly
- When service is required, call your nearest Chapin dealer and always insist on original Chapin manufactured replacement parts
Storage and General Spreader Maintenance
- When finished spreading empty hopper of any remaining material
- Thoroughly wash spreader
- Be careful to not spray directly into the gearbox
- DO NOT use a power washer, you may use a garden hose
- Allow to fully dry before storing
- For some models: remember to fold down handle
- On models with a grease fitting, it's recommended that you apply a general-purpose great at least once a month
- Check tires for proper inflation after storing spreader for long periods. Inflate to 20 psi
For some models, specifically salt spreaders
- Thoroughly wash spreader with a garden hose after each use
- Some ice melt products, such as magnesium chloride will cause rusting to any stainless steel in wet conditions
- Calcium chloride is less aggressive but will rust stainless or mild steel in a matter of weeks
- Some materials are much more aggressive oxidizers than others
